3.5.9.2 Warning signs. A warning sign specifying the payload capacity of the body shall be
provided on the body visible to a driver entering the driver's cab door. Warning signs shall be
furnished in critical locations reading: "KEEP HANDS AND FEET CLEAR OF LIFT WHILE
LIFT IS IN OPERATION."
3.5.9.3 Highway warning kit. Three emergency reflective triangles conforming to Federal
Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.95(f)(2)(i) shall be furnished and stowed in the tool storage
cabinet.
3.5.10 Dissimilar metals. All dissimilar metals used throughout the vehicle shall be
insulated from one another to prevent galvanic or electrolytic action.
3.5.11 Lubrication fittings. Lubrication fittings accessibility located shall be furnished
where moving parts normally require lubrication.
3.6 Type I, stake and platform body. Type I stake and platform body shall have the
minimum dimensions specified in table VIII.

3.6.1 Construction. In addition to the requirements of 3.5 through 3.5.11, the body shall
consist of a steel tread plate floor, side racks, tailgate, solid steel front, roof bows, and a
tarpaulin. When a chassis mounted rear winch assembly is specified, the body shall be mounted
rearward of the winch assembly. When the side racks and the front assembly are removed and
the tailgate lowered, and the platform elevated above the vehicle cab, the platform shall present
an entirely flat, unobstructed, horizontal surface.
3.6.2 Body frame. Body framing shall be a completely welded structure with members of
minimum gage thickness specified in table IX for carbon steel; high tensile steel 50,000 psi
minimum yield strength may be furnished in two gages lighter weight in accordance with
US Standard gage sizes. There shall be not less than 10 full-width crossmembers on class A
vehicles; not less than 12 full-width crossmembers on class B and C vehicles; and not less than
13 full-width crossmembers on class D and E vehicles, including ends and stub crossmembers as
required for proper spacing over the axle(s). Rub rail shall be attached using continuous welds.
