refrigerators, lights and at least one auxiliary electric heater shall be operated. The lights and
electrical equipment shall be observed to verify that the auxiliary generator provides sufficient
electrical power for satisfactory operation during transit (see 3.5.6.4). Upon completion of the
road test, the vehicle, components and accessories shall be examined for damage and leakage
(lubricant or air). All equipment permanently installed or secured for transit shall be examined
for damage.
4.4.3 Radio frequency suppression verification. The vehicle manufacturer shall indicate
on the military questionnaire (commercial vehicle engineering data), if the vehicle will be
suppressed to limit electromagnetic radiation in accordance with SAE J551.
4.4.4 Functional tests. After completion of the final road test the following functional
tests shall be performed.
4.4.4.1 Electrical system test. To determine conformance to 3.5.6 through 3.5.6.2, the
electrical system shall be subjected to a functional test. The satisfactory performance of the
electrical system shall be verified, with the air conditioner operating, and then all lighting shall
be turned on. The lighting shall be observed during the phase-in operation of the air
conditioning compressor, to verify that the lighting does not fade. The air conditioning unit shall
be observed for satisfactory operation. The power and electric circuits shall be verified to assure
that the power load is in accordance with the specified requirements and actual loads imposed.
4.4.4.2 Air conditioning test. To determine conformance to 3.5.7, the air conditioning
system shall be subjected to a functional test. The air conditioning vehicle body combination
shall be tested under actual or simulated conditions at least as stringent as the specified
requirements. Simulated conditions acceptable to the Government may be used. Performance of
the air conditioning system shall be verified to determine that the system is capable of
maintaining the inside of the vehicle body at an evenly circulated cooling temperature of 72F
(22C) maximum in a 95F (35C) outside ambient. Inside temperature may be calculated either
with the number of occupants required or through the use of a simulated heat load for sensible
cooling.
4.4.4.3 Heating test. To determine conformance to 3.5.8, the vehicle body heating
system shall be subjected to a functional test. The electric fan blower heaters and vehicle body
shall be tested under actual or simulated conditions at least as stringent as the specified
requirements. Simulated conditions must be acceptable to the, Government. Performance of the
heating system
