3.4.1.1.3 Water pump. Engine water pump, with full blocking thermostats at engine
governed speed, shall be furnished.
3.4.1.1.4 Coolant hoses and hose clamp. Coolant hoses shall be of the silicone rubber type
and shall be capable of accepting a minus 65F ambient temperature. Hoses shall be secured
with double wrap stainless steel; worm type gear hose clamps in accordance with Type F, class 4
of SAE J536.
3.4.1.1.4.1 Coolant temperature. The coolant temperature of the engine shall be the engine
manufacturer's recommended operating temperature and shall be not less than 175F.
3.4.1.2 Oil filters. A full flow, spin-off type oil filter and a by-pass type oil filter shall be
furnished. Oil filters shall be in a protective location from road elements and low ambient
temperatures.
3.4.1.2.1 Oil cooler. An oil cooler shall be furnished. The oil cooler shall be provided with
a water drain. The oil cooler shall be of sufficient capacity to meet the speed, ambient
temperature and gradeability requirements to which the vehicle will be subjected.
3.4.1.3 Fuel system. Fuel system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
393.65 and 393.67.
3.4.1.3.1 Fuel pump. Manufacturer's commercial positive displacement, gear-type fuel
pump shall be furnished.
3.4.1.3.2 Fuel tank(s). Fuel tank(s) shall have a total capacity of not less than 50 gallons.
Guard on the exterior of the fuel tank(s) shall be furnished. Guard shall be bolted to enable
service. Guard to protect fuel tank while working in a close environment. The fuel tank and the
fuel system shall be capable of providing the required amount of fuel to the vehicle engine when
ascending and descending a grade of 30 percent and side slopes of 10 percent. A red warning
indicator lamp shall be provided on the instrument panel to indicate fuel in fuel tank is too low
for the slope and grade requirements specified herein. Fuel lines shall be protected from
build-up of ice, snow, road splash and stone throw.
3.4.1.3.3 Air cleaner. A heavy duty type air cleaner with a service indicator shall be
furnished as recommended by the engine manufacturer for operation under severe dust
conditions.
