* 3.1.1.2 Marking and data plates. As specified by the procuring activity for the appropriate
military service (see 6.2), identification marking and data plates shall be in accordance with
MIL-STD-1223. When specified (see 6.2), concealed markings shall be furnished.
*  3.1.1.2.1 Warning plates. Warning plates shall be furnished and mounted in a conspicuous
location near the lower and upper controls and in the driver's compartment. Plates shall conform
to composition A (class l or 2) or composition C of MIL-P-514. At least the following
information shall appear on each of the three plates:
WARNING
(a)
AERIAL PLATFORM AND OUTRIGGERS MUST BE IN STOWED POSITION
WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING MOVED.
(b)  RATED PLATFORM LOAD, HYDRAULIC OUTRIGGERS DOWN , NOT IN
EXCESS OF ___________ POUNDS.
(c)  INSPECT PLATFORM LEVELING SYSTEM.
(d)  MAXIMUM VOLTAGE BOOM AND PLATFORM WILL WITHSTAND
__________ VOLTS AC.
(e)  OVERALL TRAVEL HEIGHT WHEN BOOMS ARE IN STOWED
POSITION ___________ .
(f)  VEHICLE SHALL NOT BE OPERATED IN WINDS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH.
(g)  BASKET LINER(S) MUST BE INSTALLED WHEN OPERATING ON OR NEAR
ELECTRICAL LINES.
(h)  DO NOT PERMIT DIRECT CONTACT OF BASKET TO GROUND WHEN
OPERATING ON OR NEAR ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION LINES.
(i)  MAXIMUM LONGITUDINAL INCLINE ___________ DEGREES.
(j)  MAXIMUM TRANSVERSE SLOPE ____________ DEGREES.
(k)  BOOMS AND BASKET(S) MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AND FREE OF DAMPNESS.
(l)  DO NOT DRILL HOLES IN BOOM OR BASKET TO DRAIN WATER, DUMP OUT
WATER
(m) USE ONLY RECOMMENDED TYPE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID.
(n)  WIRE BRAID HYDRAULIC HOSES MUST NOT BE USED ON OR NEAR
ELECTRICAL LINES.
*  3.1.1.2.2 Instruction plates. An instruction plate showing a schematic of all valves, valve
controls and equipment, and complete warnings and instructions for operating the aerial
equipment shall be fastened on the inside of a curbside vertical cabinet door. Each control lever
shall be marked with an instruction plate depicting the function of the control. Individual
markings shall be adjacent to each control. Plates shall conform to composition A (class l or 2)
or composition C of MIL-P-514.
3.1.1.2.3 Warning signs. Warning signs or labels, as recommended by the Manufacturers of
Aerial Devices and Digger Derricks Council, shall be furnished and attached.
3.1.1.3 Rustproofing. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be rustproofed in
accordance with FED-STD-297. When specified (see 6.2), tropical rustproofing in accordance
with FED-STD-297 shall be furnished.
