the weight of the' components.  The components shall be blocked, braced, and
cushioned within the box in a manner to prevent free movement and damage to
the contents or to the box.  Boxes shall be waterproof closed in accordance
with the appendix to the box specification.
5.1.2 Level C.  Each complete tamper shall be preserved and packaged to
afford protection against deterioration and damage from the supplier to the
initial destination.  The supplier's standard commercial practice is accept-
able when it fulfills these requirements.
5.2 Packing. Packing shall be Level A, B, Or C as specified (see 6.2).
5.2.1 Level A.  The tampers shall be packed in a close-fitting box con-
forming to PP-B-601, Overseas Type,Grade B.  When the tampers are furnished
in chests, and more than one tamper is to be packed in the same box, the
chests shall be blocked in the box in a manner to prevent movement and to
prevent the chests from contacting each other. Box closure and strapping
shall be in accordance with the appendix to the box specification.
5.2.2 Level B.  The tampers shall be packed as specified in 5.2.1 except
boxes shall be Domestic Type.
5.2.3 Level C.  The tampers shall be packed to assure carrier acceptance
and safe delivery to destination at lowest rates in containers complying
with Unifom Freight Classification rules or National Motor Freight Classi-
fication rules.
5.3 Marking.  In addition to any special marking required by the contract
or order, packages and shipping containers shall be marked in accordance
with MIL-STD-129 .
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. The tamper covered by this specification is intended
to be used for compacting or tamping earth when refilling all types of
excavations.
