2.3 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of
this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document
takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable
laws anmd regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.
3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected
to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3.
3.2 Codes and standards. The trailer mounted washing machine shall comply
with the applicable requirements of National Fire Protection Association
Standard NFPA 70, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard NOS. 50 and 83, and
National Electrical Manufacturers Association Standard MG-1. The washing
machine shall also conform to Factory Mutual Testing Laboratories ( FMTL)
standards class NOS. 3820 and 8100 and have FMTL approval. Satisfactory
contracting officer or his authorized representative prior to the start of
production (see 4.5).

not specifically defined shall be of the quality and construction required to
meet the trailer mounted washing machines intended use provided the completed
item complies with all of the previsions of this specification. All washing
machines, control units, and related parts furnished under any specific
contract shall be physically and mechanically identical. This requirement
includes parts, assemblies, components, spare parts, and accessories. No
changes or deviations will be acceptable without written approval of the
contracting officer. It is encouraged that recycled material be used when
practical as long as it meets the requirements of this specification.
3.3.1 Washer cylinder, shell assembly, tie rods, and base panel. The
washer cylinder, shell assembly, tie rods, and base panels shall be 304
