MIL-W-50986A (AR)
4.4.3 Testing.  Testing is described bed in the Quality
Conformance Inspection tables.
4.4.4 Inspection equipment.  The inspection equipment
required to perform the examinations and tests prescribed herein
is described in the "paragraph Reference/Inspection Method" column
in the tables starting with 4.4.2.1.  The contractor shall submit
for approval inspection equipment designs in accordance with the
terms of the contract.  See Section 6 of MIL-A-48078 and 6.3
herein.  The contractor shall submit all inspection equipment
designs to the government for evaluation and approval prior to
fabrication of such equipment.
4.5 Test methods and procedures.
PRECAUATION:
This specification covers sampling and testing of
chemical, toxic or explosive materials which are potentially
hazardous to personnel.  Accordingly, it is emphasized that all
applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures must be
followed in handling and processing these materials.
4.5.1 Radiographic examination of warhead, loaded and drilled
prior to assembly of nose cap assembly, fuze and cap. The
warheads shall be radiographically examined, in accordance with
the procedures of MIL-STD-453, by directing the beam normal to the
longitudinal axis of the warhead.  The penetrameter used in the
application specified in MIL-STD-453 shall be designed and
constructed to insure a two (2) percent sensitivity.  In addition,
the sensitivity of x-ray technique shall be 2.0 percent, and the
photographic density of the film shall be no less than 1.25. Any
warhead that does not meet the cavitation standards of 3.3 shall
be considered defective.  In addition, the warhead shall be
examined for explosive leakage into the forward section of the
warhead.  If leakage is evidenced by the x-ray, the forward
electrical connector shall then be disassembled from the warhead
and visual determination be made as to whether the material is
explosive  or adhesive sealant.  Any warhead that shows evidence
of explosive leakage shall be considered defective.  Any warhead
that shows evidence of excessive adhesive sealant or other
substance shall be noted in the test report.  Radiographic
equipment, operations and procedures shall be qualified in
accordance with Specification MIL-R-11470.
NOTE:  Radiographic examination is required at two stages of
assembly for two different criteria.
