3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Description. The washing and screening unit (hereinafter called "unit") shall consist of a
pneumatic-tired semitrailer, with dolly, on which is mounted an electric-motor-driven revolving
scrubber, triple-deck vibrating screen, single-screw-type sand dehydrator, chutes, plumbing,
components, and accessories. Provisions shall be made for feeding by a portable conveyor into a
scrubber receiving hopper when in operation. Waterpipe, fixtures and flume shall be provided to
control the water required for washing the aggregate.
3.1.1 Capacity. The unit shall process a minimum of 75 tons per hour (TPH) of 1-1/2-inch
and smaller rock aggregate produced in quarry or gravel pit operations containing not more than
2 percent of material larger than 1-1/2-inch and not more than 40 percent fines passing a 1/4-inch
screen, and shall contain not less than 8 percent CL soil as defined in MIL-STD-619. The
material shall have a moisture content above the plastic limit.
3.1.2 Physical characteristics. The physical characteristics of the unit with dolly in
operational condition for processing rock, all components, attachments, accessories, equipment,
and tools shall be as specified. All measurements shall be made with the unit on level ground,
and the inflation pressure of the tires shall be as recommended by the tire manufacturer for
operation at 30 mph highway speeds. Axle loads shall be measured at the ground under the tires.
