MIL-W-52125B
3.8.3.2 Internal wiring. Internal wiring shall be installed in conduit conforming to
WW-C-566 or WW-C-581. Conduit outlets shall conform to W-C-586. A ground wire shall be
carried as the fourth wire and shall be grounded to the unit in such a manner as to assure an
electrical bond between all electrical apparatus and the equipment on which it is mounted.
Branch circuit conductors, including wiring internal to starters, breakers, and other electric
wiring and devices which carry motor-running current, shall have a current-carrying capacity of
not less than 125 percent of the applicable motor-running current. Control subcircuits not
carrying motor-running current shall be not smaller than No. 14 AWG wire. Such subcircuits
shall include wiring internal to the control panel but not internal to starters, breakers, and other
electrical devices. Plug-in connections in branch circuits shall have a positive lock to prevent
accidental disconnection. Each wire in the system shall be number coded near each connector.
3.9 Drives.
3.9.1 Chain. The chains used in drive trains shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-421 and
MIL-STD-423, or with MIL-STD-424, as applicable. Chain drives shall not have tension
adjustment.
3.9.2 V-belt. V-belt drives shall be in accordance with USA Standard B55.1, or Rubber
Manufacturers Association, Inc., "Standard Specifications for Drives Using Narrow V-Belts (3V,
5V, and 8V Cross Sections)". Jack shaft drives may be used. All V-belt drives shall have
provision for adjustment.
3.9.3 Gear. Gear drives shall be in accordance with USA Standard B6.6, Class 2 or Class 3.
Gear drives shall be totally enclosed and shall run in an oil bath. The enclosures shall be as
specified in 3.20.4. Cast iron, when used for gears, shall conform to ASTM A-536, analysis and
heat treatment as applicable. The driving pinion shall be steel.
3.9.4 Shafting. All shafting shall be either high carbon steel or alloy steel. The shafting
shall be turned, ground, and polished.
3.9.5 Torque arm speed reducers. On torque arm speed reducers, the torque arm shall be
attached to the speed reducer housing by means of one or two brackets. Each bracket shall be
attached to the speed reducer housing by not less than 2 bolts. If the torque arm is not used to
tighten the drive belt or chain, the torque arm shall be at an angle of 90 degrees plus or
minus 30 degrees with a line drawn between the output shaft and the point at which the torque
arm is attached to the speed reducer. If the torque arm is used to tighten the drive belt or chain,
the torque arm shall be at an angle of 90 degrees plus or minus 10 degrees with a line drawn
