(see detail "A", figure 1). The plate shall be capable of withstanding on imposed load of not less
than 4,000 pounds. The transition plate shall be manufactured in sections with locking edges to
prevent spreading during loading, or otherwise manufactured to facilitate the handling of the
3.7 Type II, van body. Type II van body shall have the minimum dimensions specified in
table X. In addition to the requirements of 3.5 through 3.5.11, the body shall consist of an
overhead cab platform with a roll-up front door to a van body interior and a roll-up rear door.
TABLE X. Type II dimensions (inches).
Height (inside) (with roll-up doors)
3.7.1 Body subframing. Body subframing shall be of all-steel welded construction, braced at
all points of stress. There shall be not less than 12 full width crossmembers, including ends, of
full channel or equivalent section, pressed steel construction, attached to longitudinal sills by
welds, and at front, rear, and every second intervening crossmember by gussets. When
subframing is by welded assembly, angle gussets, crossmembers, longitudinal sills, and welded
reinforcement (when used) shall be joined by weld for not less than 50 percent of the length of
the contact edge(s). Spacing of crossmember shall be equal, ahead of, and to the rear of the
wheels. Longitudinal sills shall be constructed of structural steel channel or structural I-beam or
reinforced formed channels. Formed channel sills shall be reinforced within the sill, at each
crossmember or body mounting point with formed channel reinforcements. Crossmembers,
gussets, formed longitudinal sills, and reinforcements shall be not less than 10 gage
(0.1345 inch) steel. Side and front rails (out-rails) shall be not less than 12 gage (0.1046 inch)
steel. The design of the body subframe shall provide tire chain clearance and shall permit
vehicle operation at speeds up to 58 mph over improved roads, when loaded to the required
GVW, without evidence of permanent deformation.
3.7.2 Body framing. Side and front post construction shall be extruded aluminum and shall
be not less than 1.26 inches in depth and 0. 430 pound per foot. Side and front wall posts shall
be spaced on not more than 12-inch maximum centers. Front corner post construction shall be
extruded aluminum and shall be not less than 1.0 inch in depth and 0.482 pound per foot. Rear
corner posts shall be not less than 12 gage (0.1046 inch) steel.
