contractor of the responsibility of assuring that all products or
supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with
all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance
does not authorize submission of known defective material, either
indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to
acceptance of defective material.
4.2 Classification of inspection. The inspection
requirements specified herein are classified as follows:

4.3 Quality conformance inspection.
4.3.1 Inspection lot formation. Inspection lots shall comply
with the lot formation provisions of MIL-A-48078.
4.3.1.1 Component parts. Unless otherwise specified,
component Parts shall be homogeneous and of a quantity convenient
to the contractor, except that each cartridge lot shall contain:
Cartridge cases from one unchanged process, from one lot
a.
intermixed number, and one manufacturer.
Primers from one lot, from one lot intermixed number, and
one manufacturer.
Projectiles from one unchanged process, from one lot
c.
intermixed number, and one manufacturer.
Propellant from one lot and one manufacturer.
d.
All component parts shall meet the requirements specified
e.
in AS12013566.
4.3.1.2 Assembled cartridqe lot identification. Each lot of
ammunition shall be identified as to type, caliber, and model, as
well. as a lot number in accordance with MIL-STD-1168, supplemented
as directed by the procuring activity. The entire lot. of
reference cartridges shall be assembled and charged on a single
loading machine.
4.3.2 Examination for defects. See MIL-A-48078. MIL-STD-651
shall apply in defining ant! evaluating cartridge visual defects as
applicable.
a. Critical defects. Unless otherwise specified, one
hundred percent examination .shall be performed for all critical
defects.
If a visual critical defect is found in a sample either
