The following abbreviations shall be used:
(1)  Accompanying Documents.
The two letter codes specified in
MIL-STD-804 apply.
(2)  Divided Documents.
Use the two letter code "VL" for volume and
"SN" for section.
3.3.5.1.5
Punching and interpreting instructions for documents with non-
standard sheet numbers.
Non-standard sheet numbered documents fall in the
following categories:
a.
Documents with complex sheet numbers.
b.
Documents containing sheet numbers and page numbers.
c.  Documents whose title page and front matter are identified by Roman
numeral page numbers.
d.
Documents whose title page and front matter have no page numbers
assigned to them.
All  of  the  sheet  numbers  for  these  documents  shall  be  punched  in  the
supplementary sheet number field, cc 35-45.  The sheet number field (cc 23-25)
is modified to show that the sheet number has been moved.  Card columns 23 and
24 shall remain blank and an asterisk (*) shall be punched in cc 25 and
interpreted in print position 24.
3.3.5.1.6  Book form or multiple sheet documents containing complex sheet
numbers.
Complex sheet numbers are those numbers that have more than three
characters in them, those that contain a combination of alpha-numeric characters
and those that use decimal points to distinguish elements within the number.  An
example of the various types of complex sheet numbers is shown below, and the
punching instructions are as follows:
a.  A decimal point shall be punched in cc 39 in order to register the
number within the supplementary sheet number field.
b.  Those characters of the sheet number in front of the first decimal
point, or those in front of the first alpha character are punched in cc 35-38.
These numbers shall be right justified and nonsignificant zeros shall be used to
fill the blank spaces.  The remaining characters of the sheet number shall be
punched left justified in cc 40-45.
