4.2 Quality assurance terms and definitions. Quality assurance
terms and definitions used herein are in accordance with MIL-STD-109.
Whenever the term "inspector" is used, it denotes Government inspector
4.3 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements
specified herein are classified as follows:
Bid sample inspection (see 4.4).

Quality conformance inspection (4.5).
4.4 Bid sample inspection. Inspection of bid sample pistols shall
be performed at the designated testing agency. Pistols shall be subjected
to all examinations and tests specified herein and such other inspection
by the Government as is necessary to determine compliance with the require-
ments of this specification and the proposed contract.
4.4.1 Bid sample pistols. Examination of bid sample pistols shall
be in accordance with the applicable provisions of MIL-w-13855. pistols
shall be examined by the evaluation and test agency (see,3.1) for com-
pleteness of manufacture, general characteristics, human engineering
characteristics} assembly, finishesy marking, and workmanship} and the
barrel, firing mechanism, magazine, safety, sights, slide or bolt, stocks,
and trigger shall be examined for compliance with the requirements speci-
fied in 3.2 through 3.2.12 and 3.2.16.
4.5 Quality conformance inspection.
4.5.1 Inspection lot. The formation, size, and presentation of
inspection lots of pistols and packaging shall be in accordance with
MIL-STD-105. Inspection lots shall be as large as practicable, in con-
sideration of quality history, manufacturing conditions, and contractor's
delivery schedule, and within the limitations of the inspection lot pro-
visions of MIL-W-13855.
4.5.2 Examination.
4.5.2.1 Pistols. Pistols shall be examined for completeness of manu-
facture, general characteristics, assembly, finishes, marking, and workman-
ship, and the barrel, firing mechanism, magazine$ safety) sights, slide or
bolt, stocks, and trigger shall be examined for compliance with the require-
ments specified in 3.2 through 3.2.12. Approved manufacturing models shall
be utilized as standards.
4.5.2.1 Packaging. Examination of packaging of pistols shall be
performed in accordance with MIL-P-14313.
