4.6.4 Environmental tests (first article inspection only).
4.6.4.1 Temperature-altitude.  The equipment shall be
subjected to the test of Method 504.1 of MIL-STD-810 for category
3 equipment with the following exceptions:
Use 20,000 feet where 15,000 feet is specified.

Do not exceed the temperature limits of 3.6.1.2.
4.6.4.1.1 High temperature.  The high temperature test
requirements are satisfied by 4.6.4.1.  No separate test is
required.
4.6.4.1.2 Low temperature.  The equipment shall be subjected
to the test of Method 502.1, Procedure I of MIL-STD-810, except
maximum low temperature to be -65F.
4.6.4.2 Humidity.  The equipment shall be subjected to the
test of Method509.1 of MIL-STD-810.
4.6.4.3 Sand and dust.  The equipment shall be subjected to
the test of Method 510.1 of MIL-STD-810, Procedure I, with the
exception that for equipment mounted internal to the aircraft, the
air velocity in Steps 1, 2, and 3 shall be 200 + 100 fpm.  Step 3
may proceed immediately after stabilization in Step 2, if desired.
4.6.4.4 Fungus.  The equipment shall be subjected to the test
of Method 508.1 of MIL-STD-810, Procedure 1.  Documentary evidence
acceptable to the procuring activity that the material will not be
nutrients for fungi may be used in place of the tests.
4.6.4.5 Explosive atmosphere.  The equipment shall be
subjected to the test of Method 511.1 of MIL-STD-810.  Procedure
I, except test to be limited to maximum altitude of 20,000 feet.
4.6.4.6 Rain.  Method 506.1, Procedure I of MIL-STD-810 shall
apply for the-rations Unit only.  The Display Unit will not be
subjected to the rain test.  During each 30-minute rain period,
the wind shall be maintained for 15 minutes commencing 5 minutes
after the start of the period as specified in the procedures. The
equipment shall be operated during the last 10 minutes of the
30-minute period.
4.6.4.7 Service environment.  The equipment shall be tested
in compliance with the requirement of Section 3 of this
specification in accordance with 3.6.2.
4.6.4.7.1 Vibration.  The equipment shall be subjected to
Method 514.2-3 of MIL-STD-810, Procedure I, Category C.
