MIL-S-85018A(AS)
3.4.3 Inputs - The system shall require the following inputs from other
aircraft equipments:
3.4.3.1 Velocity Reference - The SOARS shall require a velocity reference,
true air speed, in analog form for velocity damped Second Order operation.
3.4.3.2 True Air Speed Velocity Input - The air data system input when
provided shall be true air speed along aircraft heading in analog form. The
data processor in the Electronic Control Amplifier shall process all the true
airspeed parameters for use in the velocity damped condition.
The true airspeed signal shall have the following characteristics:
Signal Format - Analog
Source in ADC - 2K ohms linear potentiometer
Output Range - 200 to 750 knots
Output Scaling - 1.589% Vref/10 kt
Scaling Datum- 1.9% Vref - 200 kt
The potentiometer should be energized by a voltage (Vref), from the
Electronic Control Amplifier.
3.4.3.3 True Air Speed Velocity Invalid Discrete - A separate signal shall
be provided to indicate the invalidity of the true air speed data signal to the
system.
The true airspeed valid discrete shall be provided with the
following
characteristics:
Signal Format - Discrete
Source in ADC - Single Pole Switch (.5 amp rated)
Switch open circuit - TAS invalid
Switch short circuit - TAS valid
3.4.3.4 Magnetic Heading- Magnetic heading information shall be supplied
to the system by a Magnetic Azimuth Detector as described in Paragraph 6.7.
Excitation for the compass transmitter shall be supplied by the SOARS as
required by MIL-D-38134.
3.4.4 Outputs - The equipment shall provide the following outputs:
3.4.4.1 Analog Heading Output - Four synchro outputs shall be provided by
the equipment.  Two external 115 V ac, 400 Hz excitations shall be required.
One excitation shall supply three of the outputs and the second excitation shall
supply the remaining heading outputs.  One of the three commonly excited heading
outputs shall have a solid state output with the Z-leg grounded internal to the
Electronic Control Amplifier.  The other two of the three commonly excited
outputs shall be electrically isolated from all other system outputs.  The
