The starter/APU shall be subjected to a
4.5.14 Humidity.
humidity test in accordance with MIL-STD-810 Method 507.  The
starter/APU shall accomplish two start cycles and one hour of APU
operation before and after the test and one after each 24-hour
humidity cycle.  All openings normally left exposed in the
aircraft installation shall be left open during the test.  Data
obtained shall be corrected to show sea level performance on a
59F (15C) day.
4.5.15 Salt Spray.  The starter/APU shall be subjected to a salt
spray test in accordance with MIL-STD-810 Method 509.  The
starter/APU shall accomplish two start cycles and one hour of APU
operation before and after the test and one after, 12, 24, and 36
hours of exposure.  All openings normally left exposed in the
aircraft installation shall be left open during the test;
however, salt spray shall not be caused to impinge directly into
the inlet or exhaust openings.  Data obtained shall be corrected
to show sea level performance on a 59F (15C) day.
4.5.16 Sand and Dust.
a. Non-operating - The starter/APU shall be subjected to a
sand and dust test in accordance with MIL-STD-810, Method 510.
All openings normally open on the aircraft installation shall be
left open during the test, however, the sand and dust shall not
be caused to impinge directly into the inlet or exhaust ducting.
The starter/APU shall be subjected to two start cycles and one
hour of APU operation before and after the test.
b.  Operating - The starter/APU shall be subjected to four
cycles of sand and dust ingestion at ambient temperatures and
pressure conditions.  The concentration of sand and dust shall be
.0015 grams per cubic foot of inlet air.  The sand and dust
contaminant shall consist of crushed quartz with the total
particle size distribution as specified in Table VII:
