| MIL-T- 38676 (USAF)
3 . 3 . 2 Standards of manufacture.
3.3.2.1 Metals. Metals shall be of the corrosion-resistant
type, or suitably treated to resist corrosion due to fuels, salt
s p r a y , or atmospheric conditions likely to be met in storage or
n o r m a l operation. W h e n materials are used in the construction
of the trailer that are subject to corrosion, they shall be
p r o t e c t e d against such corrosion in a manner that in no way
p r e v e n t s compliance with the requirements of this specification.
T h e use of any protective coating that will crack, chip or scale
w i t h age or extremes of atmospheric conditions shall not be
acceptable.
3 . 3 . 2 . 2 D i s s i m i l a r m e t a l s . U n l e s s suitably protected against
e l e c t r o l y t i c c o r r o s i o n , d i s s i m i l a r metals shall not be used in
i n t i m a t e contact with each other. D i s s i m i l a r metals are defined
in MIL-STD-889.
3.3.2.3 Selection of specifications and standards. Specifications
a n d standards for necessary commodities and services not specified
h e r e i n or on the applicable drawings shall be selected according
t o MIL-STD-143, except as provided in 3.3.2.4.
3 . 3 . 2 . 4 Commercial parts. C o m m e r c i a l parts having identical or
b e t t e r design properties and parameters than the MS and AN part
n u m b e r s listed on the applicable drawings may be used where, on
the date of request for proposal or invitation for bids, there
a r e no equivalent standard parts readily available. I n any case,
commercial utility parts, like screws, bolts, nuts and cotter
p i n s , having identical or better design properties may be used
p r o v i d e d they are completely interchangeable with standard parts
( M S or AN) without alteration. C o n f i g u r a t i o n o f t h e f i r s t a r t i c l e
t r a i l e r and components thereof shall remain the same throughout
t h e production effort except for approved changes.
3.3.2.5 Screw threads.
S c r e w threads shall be in accordance with
MIL-S-7742.
3 . 3 . 2 . 6 W e l d i n g . Welding shall conform to MIL-W-8604 for
aluminum and aluminum base alloys and MIL-N-8611 for ferrous
m a t e r i a l s . Rods for welding aluminum shall conform to QQ-R-566.
R o d s for welding common steels and corrosion resisting steels
shall conform to MIL-R-5632 and MIL-R-5031, respectively.
3 . 3 . 2 . 7 L u b r i c a t i o n . G r e a s e for chassis lubrication shall conform
to MIL-G-10924. G r e a s e fittings shall be in accordance with
MIL-F-3541. A l l g r e a s e f i t t i n g s s h a l l b e a c c e s s i b l e f o r p r e s s u r e
